Dear Valued Customer,
We are writing to inform you of a security concern affecting PHP, the scripting language used by many websites and web applications hosted on our servers.
Recently disclosed vulnerabilities in PHP may, under certain conditions, allow attackers to exploit memory-management or request-processing flaws, potentially leading to unauthorised code execution on affected servers. Given the importance of protecting our hosting infrastructure and our customers’ websites, we are taking precautionary measures and preparing to upgrade our PHP environments.
1. Temporary Security Mitigation Already Implemented
As an immediate precaution, our technical team has disabled PHP's upload progress tracking feature by applying the following configuration:
session.upload_progress.enabled = Off
This feature allows PHP to track file-upload progress through session data. Disabling it reduces certain potential attack paths associated with this functionality.
Please note that this is a temporary mitigation, not a permanent security fix. It does not eliminate all risks associated with the reported vulnerabilities, and installing the appropriate security updates remains essential.
Disabling this feature may affect websites that rely on PHP's built-in upload progress tracking functionality. Normal file uploads are not generally expected to be affected.
2. Mandatory PHP Version Upgrade
To strengthen server security, maintain compatibility with supported software, and reduce exposure to known vulnerabilities, we will be upgrading our PHP environments and discontinuing support for the following legacy versions:
-
PHP 5.6
-
PHP 7.4
-
PHP 8.2
Final deadline: Monday, 26 October 2026
Please ensure that your website is compatible with a modern, actively supported PHP version before this deadline.
Following the transition, the above PHP versions will no longer be available in our hosting environment.
3. Action Required from All Customers
To avoid website errors or service disruption, please complete the following steps before the deadline:
-
Check your website's compatibility with a modern, supported PHP version.
-
Update your CMS, scripts, plugins, themes and other third-party components to compatible releases.
-
Review custom-developed code and replace deprecated or incompatible functions where necessary.
-
Create a full backup of your website files and databases before making any changes.
-
Test your website thoroughly after upgrading PHP to ensure that all essential features continue to work correctly.
Websites running outdated scripts or custom code that is incompatible with newer PHP versions may experience errors, malfunctioning features or complete service disruption after the upgrade.
If your website relies on an older script or a custom-developed application, we strongly recommend contacting your developer as soon as possible to arrange the necessary updates.
4. Why This Upgrade Is Important
Running outdated PHP versions can expose websites to known security vulnerabilities and compatibility issues. Moving to supported PHP releases is an important step towards improving the security, reliability and long-term stability of your website.
Please do not wait until the final days to begin the migration. Allow sufficient time to update your code, test your website and resolve any compatibility issues before the deadline.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we continue working to maintain a secure and reliable hosting environment for all our customers.
If you require assistance or have any questions regarding this transition, please contact our technical support team through your usual support channels.
Thank you for choosing our services.
Kind regards,
Technical Support Team
